His career in chiropractic care allowed him to assist numerous individuals in reaching their goals for pain relief. Skilled in treating a variety of ailments, from spinal issues to accident-related injuries, he was a key figure in his field.

Aside from his professional life, he was deeply passionate about nature, photography, continual learning, and his family.

Inspired by the Outdoors at Early Age

He was born on August 8, 1947, in Sterling, Colorado, to his parents, Jerry and Ruth Cody. Being an only child, he spent much of his time with his parents. His childhood was filled with his mother's cinnamon knots and many outdoor adventures with his father. These experiences with his dad amidst the beautiful landscapes and wildlife of Colorado fostered a deep bond and a lifelong love for nature.

    A Passion for Learning

Jack's commitment to education began soon after high school when he attended Northeastern Junior College, graduating in 1967. He furthered his education at the University of Northern Colorado, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Education with a specialization in Special Education in 1969.

Post-graduation, he embarked on a teaching career while pursuing a Master's degree at the University of Northern Colorado. It was during this period that he met his future wife, who was from Iran. The couple married in 1975 and spent time in Iran, where Jack taught English and documented their travels through photography.

Upon returning to the United States, Jack resumed his teaching and completed his Master's Degree in Special Education in 1978. The following year, he and his wife welcomed their first child, a daughter.

A Career Change and Back to School

After a decade in the educational field and nearing the completion of his doctorate in Special Education Administration, Jack felt the need for a new challenge. In 1983, he applied to and was accepted into the Palmer College of Chiropractic. This decision led him to relocate his family to Iowa, embarking on a pivotal new journey.

In 1984, his family grew with the arrival of a son. While at Palmer College, he chose to merge his love for photography with his studies, composing a thesis titled "Sense of Sight through a Photograph."

The "Sense of Sight through a Photograph"

His lifelong passion was photography, with a particular focus on nature, wildlife, and landscapes. A consummate photographer and educator, he believed in the critical role of lighting in capturing the perfect photo. He advocated for the use of soft, diffused light to enhance the natural beauty of his subjects.

Jack's approach to photography was characterized by patience and meticulous attention to detail, enabling viewers to see the world through his eyes.

A Love of Family, A Devoted Grandfather

The family was central to Jack's life, evident in his love for camping, hunting, fishing, and spending quality time with his five grandchildren. He was enthusiastic about teaching them about nature and photography, even gifting them cameras one Christmas, which brought immense joy and fulfillment to his later years.

Jack Cody passed away on October 20, 2021. His legacy, encapsulated through his extensive photographic work and deep familial bonds, continues to touch the lives of many. His dedicated website, "The Sense of Sight through a Photograph," hosts collections of his photography, celebrating his vision and his indelible impact on both his community and the field of chiropractic.
